Fun Fact #1: This tea comes from a Buddhist temple in Laoman'e, a village located in western Xishuangbanna Prefecture, in southern Yunnan Province. For centuries, monks there have been caretakers of tea gardens behind the temple and regularly make tea. Tea-drinking helps them stay focused yet calm during their long daily meditation practice.
Fun Fact #2: Shu Pu'er, unlike Sheng (aged slowly over time), is aged quickly (usually a few months) in an indoor, temperature and humidity-controlled environment. This results in a fully-fermented tea which has very smooth, full-bodied, sometimes with nutty, cocoa, smoky, woody, or fruity notes. While Shu Pu'er will never have the complexity of a well-aged Sheng, if processed correctly, it will have a smoothness and full-bodied nature which many find satisfying, and the full fermentation is great for your gut health! Try drinking some Shu Pu'er to calm indigestion after a greasy meal! Many also drink Shu Pu'er to help them lower their cholesterol!
Fun Fact #3: Unlike most other teas, quality Shu and Sheng Pu'er are made with leaves from tea trees, not shrubs. Many of these trees are hundreds of years old! The leaves are from a big-leaf variety (dayezhong), and get nourishment from larger roots than from shrub plants, resulting in a more complex flavor!
