Mariage Frères
Mariage Frères, which brothers Henri and Edouard Mariage founded in Paris in 1854, is credited with creating a uniquely French tea tradition they refer to as The French Art of Tea. Inspired by France's culinary and wine traditions, Mariage Frères sought to blend teas of quality and beauty which would excite and satisfy the palate.
More than a century later, Mariage Frères has become synonymous with French tea culture, and their blends remain word class. Like fine French perfume, each blend combines many ingredients into a whole more wonderful than the sum of its parts. As a result, sampling Mariage teas is always an adventure of discovery.
The Cultured Cup established our relationship with Mariage Frères almost 20 years ago. After months of reviewing detailed information about our tea knowledge and business, they agreed to sell us their tea. Though one can find Mariage retail shops in Paris (including the Louvre), London, and Japan, today, we are still one of only a small handful of U.S. companies who are allowed to sell their tea in bulk. In fact, theirs is the only other brand we carry in addition to our own. In honor of their 150 years of blending expertise, we feature many of their most esteemed blends.
