Mom's Classic Iced Tea

Mom's Classic Iced Tea

Recipe submitted by Sean Cyre

This will make about Half a gallon so if you want more just adjust. I use mainly black tea from Sri Lanka that has been cut into small pieces specifically for making iced tea. I recommend this one from The Cultured Cup: Texas Peach Iced Tea ($18.50 for 4 oz or a quarter of a pound)

Ingredients

  • 14 g of Black Tea (preferably cut leaf)
  • Water
  • Optional: Sweetener of choice
  • 1-2 Oranges
  • 1/4 cup of Blackberries or Blueberries, slightly mashed

Directions

  1. Boil 16 oz of Water
  2. Steep tea leaves for 5 minutes, starting your count after pouring the water
  3. Remove the leaves
  4. (Optional) Add sweetener of choice here as the hot liquid will dissolve the sweetener better now than later on.
  5. Pour your concentrate into a half gallon pitcher and add water to dilute to your
  6. Cut up one or two oranges and slightly mash 1/4 cup of berries and add to the pitcher of tea
  7. Serve over ice or place in fridge once cooled to cool completely
  8. Store in fridge and enjoy within 3-4 days
