- Fun Facts
- To use a gaiwan, hold the entire unit (including the saucer and lid) in the palm of your hand and steady with your fingers. Use your other hand to steady the gaiwan and move the lid slightly so there is a small opening where the lid meets the bowl. This prevents the leaves from escaping the bowl, and you can either drink directly from the bowl or pour the tea into small cups.
- This gaiwan is dishwasher safe.
- Chinese written characters are called hanzi (汉字/漢字), which means "Han character". In Japanese, their written characters are called kanji, hanja in Korean, and Han Nom in Vietnamese. Chinese characters are important in East Asian culture.
- The gaiwan, or "small teapot", is part of the traditional Chinese gongfu tea ceremony or kung fu tea ceremony (Chinese: 工夫茶 or 功夫茶), which is a method of making Chinese tea involving the ritualized preparation and presentation of tea. The term literally means "making tea with skill".
