- The name "tea towel" originated in England in the early 19th century and was the linen of choice for Victorian ladies. They often personally used tea towels to ensure that their expensive teaware wasn't broken by a careless servant.
Hydrangeas are considered the "mood rings" of plants and change color depending on the pH of the soil. Soil with a pH of 6.0 or less (acidic) yields a blue color, while soil with a pH of 7.0 or more (alkaline) yields a pink color.
18th Century gardeners were the first to notice they could alter the color of hydrangea by burying rusty nails or "tea leaves" into the soil near the plant!
