A gaiwan, which means "lidded bowl,"  is used in many parts of China and Taiwan to steep tea.  Besides preparing your tea, the device is a convenient and mindful drinking vessel, or pour the prepared tea in the matching cups.  Serving tea with this set will make any guest feel special! Learn how to use a gaiwan in the product details below.

Included with your Gaiwan is a sample of Amber Goddess Oolong tea from Taiwan.

    • To use a gaiwan, hold the entire unit (including the saucer and lid) in the palm of your hand and steady with your four fingers.   Use your other hand to steady the gaiwan and use your thumb to move the lid slightly so there is a small opening where the lid meets the bowl.  This prevents the leaves from escaping the bowl, and you can either drink directly from the bowl or pour the tea into small cups.
    • This gaiwan is dishwasher safe.
    • The Gaiwan or a small teapot are part of the gongfu tea ceremony or kung fu tea ceremony (Chinese: 工夫茶 or 功夫茶), which is a method of making Chinese tea involving the ritualized preparation and presentation of tea.  The term literally means "making tea with skill."
