Tisane

Tisane

Tisane, a French word, is sourced from a plant (or plants) other than Camellia sinensis. This category includes chamomile, spearmint, rooibos, hibiscus, dried fruits, all spices, and all herbs. With the exception of yaupon and mate, almost all tisanes are caffeine-free.

If a tisane contains only one ingredient—mint, for example—it's simply called a tisaneIf a tisane is the main ingredient but also contains flavorings, it's a tisane+. If two or more tisanes are used in a blend, we say "tisanes" or "tisanes+."
